Our guided tour will allow you to get to know the observatory and the activities of the researchers working in it in an entertaining way.
The Canary Islands are one of the three best places on the planet for observing the sky along with Chile and Hawaii. The Teide Observatory is the largest solar observatory in the world and has a large number of solar and night telescopes owned by various European countries.
A 90-minute guided daytime tour available in several languages in which you visit the inside of a telescope (Carlos Sánchez or IAC 80), an observation is made with solar telescopes whenever the weather permits, and a 3D film is projected about the universe.
Guided tours days:
Monday at 12:00 and 17:00, Wednesday at 15:00, Thursday at 17:00, Friday at 12:00, Saturday at 15:00 and Sunday at 11:00
It includes:
-Guided day visit of 90 minutes.
-Guide starlight.
Does not include:
-Transportation (If the client wants transportation, they must select the excursion “Teide Tour + Observatorio Sur”)
-Food and drinks
-Access for people with disabilities.
Location:
The Teide Observatory (OT) is located at 2,390 m. altitude, in the Izaña area. It has its entrance at km 37 of the TF-24 general highway. To get to the OT, from the south of the island the journey is 2 hours, from Santa Cruz an hour and a half and, from Puerto de la Cruz, approximately an hour.
The movements within the OT are on foot and along gravel paths. For these reasons, the visit to people with physical problems in general (anaemia, heart disease, respiratory problems, etc.) is not recommended. If you have doubts about the convenience or not of the visit, consult your doctor beforehand.
Recommendations:
-Take precautions to protect yourself from solar radiation. The use of caps, sunglasses and protective creams is recommended.
-Due to the low humidity levels that can occur in the OT, provide enough liquid (water or juices) to prevent dehydration.
-Bring comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear (avoid sandals).
-Get some warm clothing in case the weather changes suddenly and to access the interior of the telescopes.
Important::
We request the maximum punctuality. Keep in mind that the Observatory is located at 2,400 meters high and that access to it is made by high mountain road. For this reason, we ask you to properly calculate the time of your trip to the Observatory.
AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE the scheduled time for the visit at the OT access barrier. Upon arrival, the visiting staff will tell you how to proceed. In the event of a delay in the arrival time assigned to you, the visit will be shortened (but never lengthened) in the same proportion, and may even be cancelled in the event that the delay is considerable and produces a mismatch in the rest of the scheduled visits.
Do not forget to bring your identification (DNI or Passport) and the receipt of your reservation to confirm access. In case of not presenting the identification and/or the receipt, the OT / IAC does not guarantee your access to the visit.
In case the weather conditions do not allow the activity, the money will be returned.
Age of children:
Not recommended for children under 8 years old. Children between 8 and 16 years old have free entry.
